This flute was made by Miguel's apprentice Mike Kapsimalis at Moonkat Flutes. These elderberry branch flute are unique and beautifully made from elderberry branches from Mike's property. The branch gives the flute an organic shape and natural grain that you simply can't reproduce with milled lumber. Elderberry has a long history of use in Native American flutes and whistles. That gives the wood a particularly meaningful connection to this type of instrument.
Tuned to the key of F, this flute offers a warm, expressive voice with a comfortable range for creating everything from gentle melodies to more dynamic and flowing improvisations. The F tuning gives the instrument a distinctive character while allowing the natural qualities of the elderberry branch to shine through.
