This gorgeous instrument is encompassing with its massive resonant-rich sound that produces a deeply meditative, hypnotic tone. Tuned below standard flutes, this low toned instrument allows for slow, earthy melodies that vibrate physically in the chest while offering a unique, unplugged acoustic experience that just isn't possible with a smaller flute. The low fundamental frequency of the E-flat contrabass creates a warm, "earthy" yet powerful acoustic profile. It is often described as feeling deeply grounding and therapeutic.
Because of its size, a contrabass flute typically requires a significantly larger air reservoir and wider finger stretches. However, we made this flute with offset ergonomic hole placement and thumb holes to make this large instruments much more playable and comfortable for average-sized hands. Kiera, our 23 year old beginner-intermediate flute player is able to comfortably play this flute with her small to medium sized hands with minimal issues.
