Fujara

The fujara is a towering Slovak overtone flute, traditionally played by shepherds. With just three finger holes and a long resonant bore, it produces deep, haunting tones by riding the overtone series. The fujara sings with the voice of the mountains. A flute so tall it reaches the sky, carrying shepherd songs into a timeless, meditative soundscape.

In films & soundtracks: Its unique voice has been featured in soundtracks such as The Whale (2022), Eleanor’s Secret (2009), and noted by fans in Avatar: The Way of Water (2022).

Fun fact: In 2008, UNESCO recognized the fujara and its music as part of the world’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
